Occupational Health and Safety Award

How to apply

Here’s how to submit your application for the Occupational Health and Safety Award:

  1. Check the details and practicalities of the OHS Award online.
  2. Complete the application form and send it by the deadline to prevention.aaa@secu.lu.
  3. After the jury has assessed the applications, the candidates will be informed of the result. The organisers of the OHS Award will contact the winners to arrange video shooting practicalities for their projects.
  4. The winners will be announced during the OHS Award ceremony at the OHS Forum.
  5. One of the winners will also receive the Public Vote Award, which will be determined by an online public vote over a period of several weeks following the official presentation of the OHS Award.

5 prizes worth €5,000 and a video presenting each winning project will be awarded to the winners in the 3 categories below:

1.Company category – safety (*)

  • Company ≤ 50 employees
  • Company > 50 employees

2. Company category – health and well-being (*)

  • Company ≤ 50 employees
  • Company > 50 employees

3. Category: organisation acting as a multiplier for safety, health and/or well-being at work.

(*) In the event that there are not enough admissible entries (i.e. having obtained at least 60% of the maximum score) for the company ≤ 50 employees category, the jury will reserve the right to award, if appropriate, two prizes in the > 50 employees category, and vice versa.

The “Public Vote Award”, worth a further €2.000, will go to one of the winners, who will be determined by an online vote to be held over a period of several weeks following the official presentation of the OHS Award.

Each winner will also receive a 3-minute video presenting their project. The winning videos will be shown for the first time at the prize-giving ceremony during the Occupational Health and Safety Forum. Afterwards, an online vote to determine the Public Vote Award will be held on the www.visionzero.lu website for a few weeks. Following the award ceremony, the winners and organisers will be free to broadcast the videos on their websites and social networks. The winner of the Public Vote Award will be announced once the online voting has been completed.

The application form is available in FR, DE & EN and is accessible to all.

Only one application per company or organisation and per category will be accepted.

In the application, the candidate must give details of the measures or products implemented, explain how they were implemented and describe the results obtained. The application form can be completed by documents, presentations, photos, drawings, videos or samples.

The jury will select the winners. The jury’s decision cannot be appealed. The applicant will indicate the existence of industrial property rights or patents in the application form. The applicant agrees to their contribution being published. Furthermore, the applicant declares that the documents, presentations, photos, drawings, videos, or samples attached to the application form are free of third-party rights and can be used by the organisers for communication purposes.

 

To assess the applications, the jury will analyse whether at least one of the following achievements has been made:

  • practical solutions for the safety of installations, machines, tools or processes;
  • organisational or technical solutions for improving employee safety;
  • organisational or technical solutions to improve employee health and well-being;
  • measures to prevent accidents on the way to or from work;
  • measures to prevent work-related illness.

Emphasis is laid on innovative, efficient, and sustainable solutions, those with the greatest impact and those that can be transferred to other companies or sectors.

Only companies with an employer registration number (matricule employeur) with the Centre commun de la sécurité sociale (CCSS) or organisations operating in Luxembourg may take part in the competition.

The jury has 5 members, each representing one of the following organisations:

  • Ministry of Social Security, represented by Association d’assurance accident (AAA) – chair
  • Ministry of Health / Health Directorate – Occupational Health Department (DSAT)
  • Ministry of Labour, Employment and the Social and Solidarity Economy, represented by the Inspectorate of Labour and Mines (ITM)
  • Institut National pour le Développement durable et la Responsabilité sociale des entreprises, the Luxembourg Institute for Sustainable Development and Corporate Social Responsibility (INDR)
  • Union des Entreprises Luxembourgeoises, the Luxembourg Employers’ Association (UEL)

To assess the applications, the jury will consider the following criteria:

 

1.Degree of innovation (20 points)

The degree of innovation reflects the originality and novelty of the measure or product implemented.

2. Degree of prevention (30 points)

This criterion assesses the degree of risk reduction or improvement in safety, health and/or well-being at work.

3. Degree of efficiency (10 points)

The degree of efficiency refers to the gains achieved (reduction in risk or improvement in safety, health and/or well-being at work) in relation to the costs incurred (in terms of manpower, energy, time, absenteeism, etc.).

4. Sustainability (20 points)

Sustainability is assessed by

  • the practicality of the innovation, i.e. ease of installation, use and maintenance, be it from a technical, economic, energy, organisational or labour point of view (10 points) ;
  • long-term impact, i.e. longevity or the possibility of regular checks with a view to continuous improvement (10 points).

5. Transferability (20 points)

This criterion assesses whether the measure is transferable to, or whether the product can be used by:

  • companies in the same sector of activity, whatever their size (10 points) ;
  • companies in all sectors of activity (10 points).

Note: Transferability will not be assessed for organisations.
